Community Involvement

March is nutrition month and we here at Get Fit In 30 understand the importance of good nutrition. Healthy eating is crucial in decreasing our risk for serious health problems such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes and obesity to name just a few.

It’s important to eat a good balance of proteins, carbs, healthy fats, fruits and vegetables. It’s also important to ensure you get enough hydration and make sure your snacks are healthy. If you’re not a meat eater try beans instead. For carbs take white off the list (white rice, white bread) and eat whole grains instead. Did you know avocadoes are a healthy fat that can be put in a salad? Speaking of salads always have your dressing on the side and just dip your fork into it before taking a bite. Keep starchy vegetables to a minimum, have nuts, seeds or low- fat cheese for a snack and for those that find water plain, add cucumber or lemon to enhance the flavour. With small changes in what your eating combined with strength training you can reduce high blood pressure, reduce recovery time from illness and improve your mental and physical health.

This year, June 2024, the club took on an additional new challenge of collecting items for the Care-A-Van , a mobile service that helps out those in our community by providing medical services and distributing the donated items they receive. Some of the donated items are clothing, shoes and socks as well as toiletries.

Get Fit In 30 Food Drive 2023

Well, the results are in and the number is big.  A big THANKS to all that have donated this year. We finished up with 432.7 LBS in donations of non-perishable items and $1195.00 in cash donations. Thank for digging deep everyone!!!

Even though many of us have had a challenging year in 2022, the foodbank needs our help. Through the years our membership has been very generous, please dig deep again this year. We are having a food drive for our local foodbank starting  Jan 15/23 until Jan 31/23.  In 2021 we collected 1537.4 lbs., our best year yet! The foodbank is looking for non-perishables in smaller portions as well as toiletries, feminine products or cash so they are able to purchase perishables.

Again this year we have an offer for non-members who would like to join during this time. Just bring in a bag of food items or donate $30 in cash and our $99 sign-up fee will be waived!
